When Board Fence Isn't Enough
Board fencing contains horses, but goats, sheep, and hogs require woven wire. S&S Fencing installs woven wire across Kentucky and Southern Indiana in multiple heights — 26", 32", 39", 47", and 60" — with 6" and 12" stay spacings to match the livestock. We've fenced everything from small hobby goat operations in Spencer County to multi-pasture cattle and sheep farms across Nelson, Hardin, and Bullitt Counties. Choosing the Right Woven Wire
Stay spacing matters more than most owners realize. Tight 6" stays at the bottom keep goats and lambs in; 12" stays save money on cattle-only perimeters. Wire gauge runs from 12.5 (most common, high-tensile) up to heavier 9-gauge field fence for high-pressure situations. Class 3 galvanized coating is standard on our installs — it gives the fence a 30+ year service life in Kentucky's wet pasture conditions.
Combined Systems — Board Fence + Woven Wire
The most versatile farm fence combines a board top rail with woven wire below — keeping horses visible and contained at the top while preventing escape of smaller animals at the bottom. This is our most-recommended system for mixed-livestock operations, working horse boarding facilities, and farms that plan to change herd composition over time.
H-Brace Construction & Proper Tensioning
Woven wire is only as good as its corners. Every S&S Fencing woven-wire install includes properly built H-braces at corners, gates, and direction changes, plus correct end-post construction. We tension the wire to manufacturer spec using a stretcher bar — over-tightened wire fatigues prematurely, under-tightened wire sags and lets animals push through. The fence should look as good in year ten as it did the day we left.
